Star Wars: Battlefront 2 Announced 4/21/2005 9:26 AM
From GameSpot.com:

"In the wake of Battlefront's success, LucasArts and Pandemic both took a step back to soak in the good, the bad, and the ugly from players of the game. Fan feedback, coupled with LucasArts and Pandemic's own wish list of what to include in the Battlefront sequel, has formed the driving force behind the development of new content. Judging from our early look at what the game has in store, the above is shaping up to be quite a powerful combo. You'll find new gameplay modes, more locations to fight in, tweaks to the individual units in your squad, the debut of an all-new unit for each squad, the introduction of Jedi combatants, new battle types, and plenty of Episode III content in the ambitious sequel."

Battlefield 2 Announced 4/21/2004 12:45 AM
From BluesNews

This Digital Illusions Press Release has the official announcement of Battlefield 2, albeit in the developer's native Swedish. In conjunction with the news, there are Battlefield 2 Q&As on GameSpy and IGN, each talking with Scott Evans, executive producer on the project. Sparing us the vagaries of online translations, an English version of the announcement is also online:

April 20, 2004--Move out soldier! Electronic Arts (Nasdaq:ERTS - News) and Digital Illusions today announced that development is underway on the sequel to the award-winning Battlefield 1942(TM) PC game. Battlefield 2(TM), scheduled for release in spring 2005, moves the franchise forward in time to invade the high tech frontlines of modern warfare. Powered by an all new game engine, Battlefield 2 brings the intensity and excitement of its predecessors, Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam(TM), into the modern era with the latest, most technologically advanced vehicles and weapons systems available to man.
In Battlefield 2, players will choose to fight for one of three military superpowers: the United States, China, or the newly formed Middle East Coalition. Armed with the latest modern weaponry, players can take control of any of the game's 30+ vehicles to engage in major conflicts with over 100 players in some of the largest online battles on the PC.

Battlefield 2 features immense, richly detailed, destructible environments, from city streets to remote forests, in some of the most notorious hot spots around the world. Each map in Battlefield 2 adjusts in scale to support the number of players in the world, providing the ideal vehicle-to-player ratio and an optimized game play experience. Enhanced team play features allow players to enter the action on the front lines as part of a formal squad, or work behind the scenes in Commander Mode to direct the strategic assaults of their teammates. With in-game success, players increase their rank from recruit all the way to General and unlock awards, including new weapons, vehicle decals, medals, and more.

BFSM planed for Battlefield: Vietnam 3/19/2004 10:50 PM
From BlackBagOps
Friday, 19 March 2004

Well it seems from the forums that there are more than a few people who would like to see a BFSM for Battlefield Vietnam and how can I let BFSM fans down? I have started working on BVSM and bvsmd and already have functional builds running here. I will continue to work on BVSM when I have time (in between math & physics assignments) and hope to make it available soon (read "when it's done").

As always BVSM and bvsmd will be FREE software (EA/DICE are not supporting BVSM) so please don't forget to throw a coin in the plate for this poor university student! I would like to thank everyone for the amazing show of support in the forums of late, I am very proud to be a part of the BF community. Thank you.

Eve of Destrution MOD 11% Demo RELEASED 6/13/2003 9:59 AM
With the release of the BF1942 1.4 Patch, Eve of Destruction (EoD) is the first MOD for BF1942 that we host to release a "patch" to work with the official 1.4 patch.

We have chosen to go ahead and Patch to 1.4 and EoD 11% and simply wait for the DC release to address 1.4 before hosting it again.

Dubbed the EoD 11% Demo, this new install has a huge number of patches and additions over the 1.4 changes.

From EoD:
Good news from Vietnam. The EoD Alpha 11% (requires BF1942 Patch v1.4) is released. Unfortunately it will only be available as full download because we changed too many things to simply make a patch.

This release will contain not only new skins, vehicles and new objects, it features 8 complete new custom maps. Each map is different in their own way (from realistic to fun maps) and partially adapted to the Indochina Vietnam Conflict. Fraggers Hall is now hosting Battlefield 1942: The Road to Rome!

From Battlefield 1942.com

The Road to Rome focuses exclusively on the key Italian and Sicilian campaigns of WWII. Each map comes with highly detailed environments such as Italian houses, Mediterranean trees, and even the Monte Cassino Monastery. This expansion pack features eight new vehicles. These include the German BF-110 and British Mosquito twin-engine fighter-bombers as well as new Italian, British, and German tanks and anti-tank guns.

The Road to Rome supports up to 64 gamers (on select maps), playing as several infantry classes, controlling many weapons available to the Axis and Allies, and commanding numerous land vehicles, ships, and aircraft.

Fraggers Hall Calendar Contest! 11/20/2002 11:42 PM
I new product is available in our Fraggers Hall Store, and I have a problem!

This can (and will) be the Fraggers Hall 2003 Calendar. Filled with 12 monthly images to make a 12 month flip calendar! This is printed on high quality paper. It will be very similar in style to the calendars you receive from the banks and insurance companies every year, except with a Fraggers Hall flare!

So what's my problem!? I do not have the cognitive capacity to think up 12 graphical images that best represent our community!!! That's right, this contest is not just for Fraggers Hall, this is open to all of our gaming community. The theme of the images need only center on on-line gaming!

So how do you enter and how do you win?!?! Easy! Read the below rules and summit your original artwork! Images will be posted in a poll, top 12 images will make it on the calendar. The image with the most votes will win a free completed calendar.

Contest Rules.
    1. All images must be original. No copyrighted material allowed! Completely from scratch images, or cleaned up screen shots from any on-line game (PC GAMES ONLY).

    2. All images must be 11.5" x 9" at 200 DPI. (Make sure any major content is a half inch away from the edge of the image, because they will be trimmed 11 x 8.5.)

    3. Images must be G rated. (Ok, at least a firm PG.)

    3. Images may be submitted by any member that is a member of our Forums. If you’re not a member, sign up!

    4. Send your submissions to jared@fraggershall.com ...Submissions will be accepted through December 10th, 2002!

After that date, the images will be posted in a public poll in the Fraggers Hall forums. Voting will be carried out for 2 weeks. Upon the end of the poll, 12 winners will be selected, and their images will be used in the calendar. The winner with the highest votes wins a free copy of the calendar. Next highest will be given first choice of the month his or her image will be displayed. 3rd highest winner will get to choose from the remaining, etc.

More details will be posted as images are submitted. Follow the forum link below to comment or ask questions on this contest.

Planetside finally in beta, signup now! 11/4/2002 11:11 AM
Finally, Planetside is now taking beta applications, but you better hurry, it's only for a very short period of time, Nov. 8 is the cutoff. I've been waiting on this for a very long time!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Planetside here's a snippet from the FAQ
    What is PlanetSide?
Planetside is a massively multiplayer, first-person action game involving thousands of players fulfilling all the roles needed to wage war across the face of ten gigantic continents involving infantry, ground vehicles, and air battles.
Gamers play as any of the three global empires, each group struggling against one another to dominate each base, continent, and ultimately, the planet, for their Empire.

Verant, the makers of the highly successful Everquest are the creators of Planetside. If anyone can pull off the first massive multiplayer first-person shooter, Verant can.

Here's the new vehicle pics.

Battlefield 1942 Retail - HOSTED! 9/18/2002 11:31 PM
Fraggers Hall is now hosting Battlefield 1942!

Battlefield 1942 is a WWII game that had it's beginnings from the Day of Defeat MOD for Half-Life. Now back on a brand new NON-QUAKE engine the game has evolved to something that has not yet before been available.

Battlefield 1942 is a 3D Shooter, Flight Simulator, RTS, and more all in one. With the ability to play as 5 infantry classes on either the Allied or Axis sides, and control an array of vehicles such as Jeeps, Personnel Carriers, Aircraft, Ships, Submarines, Tanks, and more! You can also control land based artillery and flak cannons, and act as a support gunner on many vehicles.

All of this takes place on vast maps reminiscent of Tribes 1 maps cover large areas giving players plenty of room to move and around and do battle!

Fraggers Hall's server is temporarily in LAN mode to work around a small bug encountered during match switching. To join our server, you will need to add the IP address of 64.126.104.51 in GameSpy or in the in game browser. Our server is also password protected at this time to keep out the smacktards... Regulars will know the password or know how to obtain it.

The BF1942 server has been put up in place of the Americas Army: Operations server due to high Fraggers and DDA demand.

-=FraggersHall=-ArmyOperations Server 8/10/2002 1:44 PM
The Fraggers Hall ArmyOperations Server is now Public and Authorized.

Thanks once again to Alchemist, we were able to meet the somewhat strange requirements that were needed to get our server authorized. You can now play on our server to qualify for maps and such.

Gamespy searching has also been enabled. You will now be able to find our server as
"-=FraggersHall=-ArmyOperations Server" in GameSpy, GameSpy Arcade, and such...

The server password has been removed. Feel free to give the server address out to anyone you would like to play with...

Some of our server settings include...
  • 6 min. rounds / 7 rounds per match / 1 match per map.

  • ROE is set to 300, not 400! If your ROE exceeds 200 you will be kicked from the server. "If you don't KNOW, DON'T FIRE!"

  • A minimum of 2 players are required to begin play, you won't be able to join the game and "play with yourself"... Bring a friend.

{FRG} MOHAA Retired - OGH {THC} MOHAA Created! 8/5/2002 4:24 PM
As many of you know the -=FraggersHall=- MOHAA server has been taken down to host an America's Army server. This was not good news to some of you in our DDA community, and others that just frequented our server.

Well here is some good news...

The Hell Clan has created an MOHAA server with Online Gaming Host! This server we be much heftier than what us Fraggers had, and has an OC-XXX back bone to boot!

You can connect to the new server by typing the following in console:

"connect 66.150.28.208:12219"

You MUST include the port to connect to the proper server.

We have re-pointed our MOHAA server monitor to your right to their server as well.

Hydra's Army Opperations Manager 8/3/2002 10:36 PM
For those of you that are unfamiliar with this tool, or for those of you interested in setting up your own AO server, this is the tool for you.

Features include:
  • Host up to 4 servers.

  • Each with it's own configuration.

  • Each with it's own server schedule.

  • Easy GUI interface.

  • Automatic server restarts on crash.

    • Latest Update:
      OK guys, another couple updates.

I gave the Config Maker screen better indication as to which screen your looking at.

The tool will now minimize to your system tray (The area next to your clock in the lower right)

I have added a scheduler. You can now schedule up to 4 games.
To use it, just click the Start Scheduler button and enter start and stop times in 24hr format.
Then when you go back to the main screen, just click the red "S" button next to the slot that has a schedule. It will then turn green. The scheduler has an accuracy of 1 minute.

To stop a schedule, just click the green "S" next to the slot you want to stop.

I think in one of the next releases I'm going to add a help file.
I'm also just about finished with command line support.

      This version is 1.0.41. --Hydra

    America's Army Patch 1.1.1 RELEASED 8/1/2002 10:31 PM
The version 1.1.1 America's Army patch has been released!

The Marksmanship Pack is packed with much, much more than just the single-player U.S. Army Sniper School missions. Responding to the feedback from our community, we've decided to add a number of additional features in this release, to include the following: tools that kick AFK players; TeamTalk options (allowing you to radio all your live and --er--'retired' team members); added green-tinted tracers to the OFPOR RPK (allowing you to distinguish between friendly and OPFOR MGs); changed the M4A1 to be fully-automatic; removed the MOUT McKenna training requirement; tightened the belt around ROE scoring (violations in the first 30 seconds will earn you an immediate 'kick' and ROE violations in the first 45 seconds doubles the penalty) and fixes for the Ghost Player and Rifle Range bugs. Oh...and one other thing, too: an In-Game Browser. Hooah! Yes, the DEV team has been busy (we let them outside at least one hour a day to stretch...) But rather than releasing these features one-by-one, we've decided to burn the midnight oil and put 'em all in one rucksack. [Bacchus]

    Planetside Update 6/17/2002 6:17 PM
The shroud of darkness which has enveloped Planetside the last 5 months has apparently been lifted at E3. There has been little to no updates since December concerning Planetside. The E3 unveiling shows off all the new vehicles which have been added and are fully functional.

    U.S. Army Recruiting Geeks/Nerds? 5/23/2002 10:42 PM

The U.S. Army today unveiled America's Army , an innovative, realistic computer game providing civilians with an inside perspective and a virtual role in today’s premiere land force, the U.S. Army. America's Army players will experience soldiering in a state-of-the-art new manner.

The America's Army game blends two vivid simulations: Soldiers, a role-playing portion in which players navigate life’s challenges to achieve goals, and a first-person action game, called Operations.

Developed by the U.S. Army and a world-class team of Department of Defense experts in simulations and virtual environments, America's Army will be available in August. The Army will distribute America's Army for *free* in response to requests at America's Army and GoArmy.com, through distribution partners that include leading computer game magazines, at Army events, at recruiting stations, and through internet download.
    ----
Grim - Geez, wouldn't it suck, that if you signed up for the free game, that you were really recruiting yourself into the real Army?

    Tribes 2: Fast Attack 4/8/2002 3:58 PM
GameSpy conducted an interview with Alex Rodberg from Sierra regaurding Tribes 2: Fast Attack.

    From GameSpy:

    *SNIP*
Alex Rodberg: TRIBES Fast Attack is actually two separate products in the same... ...Fast Attack: this is a brand new TRIBES game set in the TRIBES 2 universe.. it contains a complete single player campaign, a complete multiplayer game that is far more frantic and fast than what TRIBES 2 offers. It is designed for smaller teams and faster action, more fun and pick-up games rather than trying to organize a large 32 person game to regularly compete.. this is something that's far more conducive to just jumping in and having fun. The box also contains an enhanced version of TRIBES 2, which includes two exclusive mods. ...Team Rabbit 2 designed... ...Competition Mod. This is basically a style of play that's specifically suited for ladders, leagues and tournaments -- and something to allow the very experienced TRIBES player to get out there and move faster and offers rebalanced weapons that are slightly more appropriate for these experienced players. It gives them a slightly more challenging way to play that appropriate for their advanced skill level.. So there's something for both new players with the single player adventure and the fast and furious multiplayer of Fast Attack as well as for the TRIBES 2 veterans.

    *SNIP*
Alex Rodberg: Some of the vehicles (from TRIBES 2) have been changed so that they are one person vehicles. So you've got the fighter which you are used to as being one person -- but we're changing the armaments on that a little bit. There's also a one person bomber so you no longer need a full crew to go out there and use it.. we've added guns to the five-person transport so this is no longer a sitting duck in the sky, and it has a way of defending itself against other aerial opponents and just tweaking out some physics on the ground bikes so its more appropriate for the maps.

    *SNIP*
GameSpy: Are there any incentives that you're going to offer current TRIBES 2 players that will make them more inclined to pick this game up?

Alex Rodberg: Absolutely. We're going to be offering a mail-in rebate of twenty dollars to existing owners of TRIBES 2. So if you are already a TRIBES 2 owner it's going to wind up being a very inexpensive purchase not unlike an expansion pack.

    Tribes 2 Patch - Summer Release 3/20/2002 10:19 AM
Posted by Alex "Marweas" in the TribalWar Forums:

The full post can be found here.

      *SNIP*
      - Key points of the patch so far are: fixing UE's, restoring frame rate for those that lost it after the last patch, solving the "Null" bug, and making gravity a scriptable variable so modders can get to it. The ELF will be "nerfed" and the disc launcher will once again always shoot to the center of the reticle. The editor should be improved.
      - The current timeline for development would have the patch releasing sometime in the summer, following an extensive test period.
      - The patch will be free through the normal auto-update process.

Please note that since the contract still hasn't been signed, all of this is subject to change.

    From Blues News

There is now a new version 1.50.0004 of the GameHost utility that eases the process of running a game server for several multiplayer games, including Quake, QuakeWorld, Quake II, Quake III Arena, Hexen II, Half-Life, Sin, Starsiege TRIBES, and Unreal Tournament. The new version adds Return to Castle Wolfenstein support. GameHost is for Windows NT 4/Windows 2000/Windows XP servers, and runs as a service.

Things may never be the same. 3/4/2002 4:28 PM
Well my friendly neighbors, I have some interesting news for you. Senator Hollings of SC, and a few of his friends (Disney, MPAA, and RIAA to name a few) have decided that the DMCA wasn't good enough and have drafted a new bill which will radically alter the world of technology as we see it today. This new bill, the Security Systems Standards and Certification Act(SSSCA), if passed, will make many of the things you do and take for granted today, illegal tomorrow. Just a FEW things of what is covered here I will list now (with props to Sohcan's post on anandtech.

    * Assembling a home-built PC.
    * Using a non-secure computer (i.e., a computer built before the would-be implementation of the SSSCA) on a network.
    * Widespread development of open-sourced (non-copyrighted and “digitally unsigned? software.
    * Use of open-sourced software (essentially the entire software platform for the UNIX and Linux operating systems, on which Computer Science research relies).
    * University and corporate research on systems, debugging, security, and watermarking.

After a successful and relatively bug-free beta test, I'm finally releasing the Tribes2Maps.com AutoDownload system. This is a Tribes 2 script with an accompanying Visual Basic application that allows you to automatically download maps from Tribes2Maps.com from within the game, without having to restart Tribes 2, or ever leave the game.

The VB program runs in the background and takes care of "installing" the maps that are downloaded from Tribes2Maps.com by the T2 script. It also launches T2 for you, either directly or via the Sierra Auto Update utility. It can also launch T2 via Panama Jack's TimeHUD.exe. This all happens with very little modifications to any core T2 code, and it includes a box to enter optional command line parameters, so it should be compatible with any mod.

PJ (not Panama Jack) has prepared an installer program that installs the VB application as well as the required T2 script files. Download the installer here:

This is client side, not server side.

Q&A Session on the T2 IX MOD 2/6/2002 10:11 PM
DW_Fusion passed along an interview he conducted with {THC}Brimstone regarding the progress of the IX MOD. He was generous enough to share it with us.

Fusion: Now we both come from a tight knit Tribes 1 gaming community who are familiar with the IX MOD. In short, can you explain for newcomers what the IX MOD is?

Brimstone: (Not intended to be rude- you can do a history and features of IX in detail as well as I can.) In short, IX is a modification, or mod of the rules and items in Tribes. IX was also server-side, requiring no client download to play, and that idea carries on into T2. Unlike other mod authors, *IX*Savage1 strove to keep additions simple and balanced, that is, every advantage carried an equal disadvantage, such as the booster- an efficient way to quickly move a heavy arsenal into battle, but it's sensitivity to impact, damage, and overheating made it dangerous to use. Half the skill in being a booster jockey is just getting there alive....

Fusion: Will all of the original IX weapons be in the T2 version, and in addition, will any new weapons be added?

Brimstone: So far, all personal weapons from IX have made it to IX:T2. At least in beta, there are two new weapons; the Pulser, or ChainBlaster, and the Assault Rifle, which toggles between a three shot burst and an under slung grenade launcher. The Pulser is bound to the energy pack due to its horrific power drain, but can be devastating at close range- even for the user, as blaster bolts ricocheting about can easily return unexpectedly. The assault rifle has a tighter spread than the chain gun due to less recoil, so is more accurate, but the bullets are less dangerous. In grenade mode, it has half the damage of a standard grenade, and uses 15 ammo per shot. The rifle is limited to light and medium armors. There are a few other items still under consideration for both feasibility and balance.

Fusion: There are rumors of some type of weapon being added to the grav bike. Is there any truth to this rumor or do you feel the addition of a weapon would offset the game play?

Brimstone: At this time, no. The MAG was funny, but impractical. It has a greater pull than T1, and would slingshot the bike out of control too easily. A chain gun was so inaccurate as to be pointless, as most other weapons would be. Weapon power consumption drained shields too fast, allowing the vehicle to be destroyed easily. I have considered upping shield strength, though, as most bikers really just want to run over their opponents.

Fusion: Is there at all by chance any new vehicles?

Brimstone: As of now, there is one new tank, thoughts about another, a 1-per-team tactical air superiority fighter that has blasters, heat seeking missiles, and higher maneuverability and speed, with much weaker shields, and plans for a new heavy assault vehicle, also one per team. MPB turret barrels are now exchangeable.

Fusion: Will there be new particle effects used in this MOD? If so, then in what way?

Brimstone: Too many to list here, ranging from player blood (which may or may not stay) to new effects for new weapons, even a redo of the mortar explosion (green smoke, OK- but a green explosion is just ghey)

Fusion: With some MODS we've seen in Tribes 1, such as the Renegades Ultra MOD, there had been an overwhelming change in the games dynamics. Mortars that unrealistically shoot about 10 rounds per second, one shot kill rifles that shoot out about 50 rounds per second, unlimited jetpack usage, etc. Which is fine for some people, but it really doesn't feel like Tribes anymore then. What precautions are you taking to make sure the fundamental Tribes 2 dynamics still works?

Brimstone: We are working in the spirit of IX, trying to balance every weapon, vehicle, and game play change that gives an offensive advantage with a corresponding weakness that can be exploited by defense as long as they are even trying to play effectively.

Fusion: How compatible is IX with the different game types so far? Such as D&D, CTF, Hunter, etc. Are we looking at full compatibility for all game types?

Brimstone: Full compatibility is the goal, and so far, no difficulties. The D&D game code needs some updating to compensate for a few patches, and I would like to see additional scoring implemented so that the player is better rewarded for defending as well as destroying.

Fusion: Now some users don't particularly like to download a modification to be able to play it. Will the IX MOD run client side, server side, or both?

      Brimstone: Our goal is server-side.

Fusion: How do you think the completion of this MOD will impact the Tribes 2 game community?

Brimstone: I don't think it will greatly impact the greater community, since Ultra MODs still remain the most popular, but I do hope to see a return of the IX community, in particular, perhaps selfishly, the Fraggers Hall community.

Fusion: Now to the last question Brim. The one most feared by all Dev teams. Everyone wants to know WHEN will the MOD be complete, and I won't accept a "no comment". At this stage in your work can you give an estimated date of completion, or a percentage of completeness?

Brimstone: It will be done by the time we release it.... ;P

Tribes Fast Attack? 1/25/2002 12:15 PM
    (From TribalWar)

Amazon.com had an item for sale titled "Tribes Fast Attack" scheduled for release November 30th, 2002. No other information was available.

Alex "Marweas" Rodberg posted on the Tribal War forums about the rumors of the next Tribes title, Tribes Fast Attack:

The likeliest scenario is that a Sierra sales person passed on to the Amazon people a sell sheet of something being discussed at one point. Yes, "Fast Attack" is a code name for a Tribes product we have been discussing, but no, we have not green-lighted any new Tribes products, let alone set any ship dates. Similarly, the sys req's and the ESRB rating are probably placeholder text.

You all know that we're figuring out the future product line-up for Tribes. When there is a decision and a committment and a contract, I will be the first to tell everyone all about it. Until then, it's just speculation and rumors - that later get held against you - and I want no part of it.

Whether this gets you stoked or pisses you off, ease back and wait for something official. It may save you some disappointment in the long run. - Alex

    Ghost Recon - Retail 11/26/2001 1:21 PM
It looks like Fraggers hall hosting a dedicated Ghost Recon server may soon become a reality. Our hold up is that Ghost Recon has decied to move the DOS console dedicated servers which have become so standard into a GUI that requires a 16MB 3D video card. Very few servers come with these stock, so we simply need to find time to visit the server and throw a Voodoo3 card into the puppy so we can get up and running.

We will announce here as well as in the forums when the server is up and active hosting Ghost Recon.

Get a grip on your stick! 10/26/2001 12:45 PM
If you're in the market for a new joystick for your flight sims do I have the one for you.

I just picked up a Saitek X45 throttle and stick and am quite pleased. For only $79 this is one mean set of sticks. Setup is a breeze and custom configuration is incredibly easy. Without using custom configuration all the buttons wheels and sliders register as DirectX buttons which you can go in game and configure your controls to use whichever buttons you want.

Way back when Thrustmaster was the first to come out with a HOTAS system, (Hands on throttle and stick), I bought the WCS MKII for like $150 each. It was good for it's time but is now terribly outdated. The price tag along with sleek looks, lit buttons and ease of configuration make this a must have for you flight sim fans.

The X45 is a brand new model and isn't yet shown on Saitek's page, however the design is almost identical to the X36 shown here except the top of the base is a metallic blue.

Tom Clancy and Red Storm Entertainment 10/14/2001 1:38 AM
Motivated by a converstation I had with Dart this weekend, I swung out to Red Storm's website and found a couple pieces of not so new, but maybe worth posting considering the current state of our on-line comunity.

    1. Rouge Spear - Black Thorn - A new stand alone mission pack based on Rouge spear offering "10 new single-player missions wrapped in a thrilling new story", as well as "6 new multiplayer-only maps, including new locations and new versions of your old favorites". Also included are 10 more weapons, and a new game type "Lone Wolf". Seems like Rabbit from T2. Screen Shots

    2. Tom Clancy's - Ghost Recon - "Russia has fallen under the control of ultra-nationalistic leaders intent on rebuilding the Iron Curtain. This leads to conflict with NATO as Russia attempts to reclaim the breakaway republic of Georgia, and the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. As the war escalates, casualties mount, hostages are taken and the Ghosts are sent in. Take command of the Ghosts through a series of missions that range from demolitions, to search and rescue, to all-out firefights for survival."

and get this... (From thier forums) "Dedicated servers are rumored... and serious attention is being payed to reduce lag that was experienced in Rouge Spear." Screen Shots

Punkbuster Will No Longer Support Valve Titles 9/25/2001 4:14 PM
On the news page of PunkBuster's site is a post explaing that they are dumping support for the titles including Half-Life / Counter-Strike. Here is an excert.

At this time, we are suspending development of the Half-Life version to focus on game platforms where the developer is willing to support the effort. We sincerely believe that we have had a positive impact on the Half-Life community and we truly appreciate the support of our hundreds of thousands of users. However, from the beginning we have said that we did not want to charge users directly for our product and we intend to abide by that decision. The remaining bugs, problems, issues, etc. with the Half-Life version cannot be addressed properly without direct integration with the game, and at this time, there is no hope of that even being a possibility.

    Tribes 2 Beta 6 Patch 9/20/2001 9:12 AM
    From TribalWar

Marweas has let us in on the latest beta patch.

We're going to release another patch (beta6) at noon PST today. The only issue we're still looking at is the "null" bug. The engineers have told us that this is related to script errors. So, this should mean that pure servers and clients running without any scripts will not experience such problems. We would like to make sure that even in big games this does not create any new issues. Anyone interested in helping us test this should download beta6 from Tribes 2 Central Download at noon. Please submit feedback by tomorrow morning.

Note for scripters: along with the beta patch we will release more detailed information on the scripting errors that cause the "null" errors and how to fix them.

There is a finite number of network strings available, the single quote strings. This problem occurs when all strings have been allocated. This is particularly common with mod servers, which appear to be allocating too many net strings. Mod and script developers need to be cautious when creating new strings. Don't create dynamic net strings unless you have a firm understanding of the implications. If a string is added using "AddTaggedString" make sure that there is a corresponding "RemoveTaggedSting" call when the string is no longer needed. Also be sure to limit the number of imbedded strings in your scripts.

    Server Outages 9/18/2001 9:30 AM
PlanetTribes reports that Sierra will have a planned server outage for maintenance starting Wednesday, September 19, 2001 at 12:01 a.m. PDT. Down time is expected to last aproximately 12 hours. This effects all Sierra multiplayer games except Half-Life based games.

And it seems as if TribalWar has suffered the same fate our web site suffered a few weeks back. They are reporting that due to a drive array failure they will will be down till some time later today.

Velocity MOD No Worky for D&D 9/7/2001 2:59 PM
It turns out the Velocity MOD is compiled, so we can not edit it. We installed it only to find out that it interfered with the D&D code and since we can't look at the Velocity MOD code, we can't fix it for D&D. So for now, it is not an option.

I have submited a post on thier forum asking for help. If anything comes of it we may address this at a later time. Till then, we wait on IX :)

    Counter-Strike 1.3 Info 9/7/2001 12:16 PM
    From BluesNews

An update to The official Counter-Strike website (thanks Rimas Gaizutis) has a status report on the highly-anticipated version 1.3 of this Half-Life mod/game. Noting that the promised first week of September release has obviously been missed, they estimate the new version, which will offer the voice communication and proxy spectator modes in the upcoming Half-Life patch, is likely to be released "in the next 2 weeks (hopefully next week, but that could change)."

Kinda a late update, but since we are on the subject of scripts.

If you use any of PJ's Scripts you will want to keep an eye glued to his site. In the coming days he is re-coding all of his scripts to make them smaller and to run more efficiently.

Until then, I had not yet posted on one of his newer scripts, Commander HUD. PJ's Commander moves the Tribes 2 Command Map to your normal Play Screen so you can view everything in a small HUD. You have complete control over the HUD when enabled. You can pick it up here.

Or you can pick up all of his T2 scripts in one easy download like I do here.

    Velocity MOD 1.0 8/31/2001 11:54 AM
Velocity has just been released to the Tribes 2 community. Velocity is a server side mod which tweaks the skiing and vehicles to make the game much faster and exciting. From everything I have heard it is well worth checking out; those interested can do so on Team Fuison Dual P3-800.

Velocity, the Tribes2 MOD that was created for the sole purpose of "speeding up Tribes2", has been released to the public today (8/30/01). Due to the overwhelming positive response the MOD received at the TribesCON3 LAN last weekend, we have decided to release the MOD to the public. To get the latest version or for more info, please visit our website at http://www.junotech.net/velocity or contact juno@junotech.net

    Thanks, The Velocity Team

Sierrea makes it official 8/13/2001 8:44 PM
Posted on TribalWar, is the blurb from Sierra

It is very uninformative, but just above that is an interview getting some more details... the short? Tribes 2 will go on... as will the patches. But being a long time Sierra customer, do not expect this patch every few weeks thing. Sierra will likely release a patch twice a year, and even then only when absolutely needed.

This may not be so bad...

      - Have the support of thousands of developers to help you get the most of your V-12.

VERY IMPORTANT Waypointing Script Warning 8/7/2001 11:55 AM
    From PlanetTribes News
Some of your may have seen a waypoint script advertised on other sites, we will not advertise this script.

After a meeting of the majority of prominent T1/T2 scripters in the community, the script was discussed and they agreed that downloading and installing the file is ill advised.

At this time the Waypoint script mentioned above has some suspicious coding and we do not recommend using it until a CS version is released. The possible problem is the retrieval of you Won Authorization information but the script as there is no need to do this for a script like this to function properly. Vital information such as your password could be passed to their database. Thank you.

This hasn't been confirmed, it's not possible with a compiled script. We'll let you know the moment we hear anything more. To sum it up DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS SCRIPT.

Planned for this patch is a recording feature, as well as a number of cheat-preventing measures. I have not seen this build, so I can't tell you much at all about it, other than the long wait is almost over. More info as it becomes available. - Alex

FRG Hosts THC 7/27/2001 8:30 AM
Last night, the Fraggers hosted The Hell Clan in a D&D match. The first match on Archipelago ended in a tie when THC was in the lead after managing to break through our defense long enough to take out a generator. But FRG pulled together in the end to cap the switch in the last few remaining seconds to tie the game.

On the second map, Beggars Run, we were tied up 2 to 2, when we started to experience very harsh lag problems. The match was called as a tie, and a tiebreaker is scheduled for some time in August to be announced.

    Thanks for the match THC.

    Superstats

Added - Tracking of data by Game Type. The script will now track all of your kills both using Overall Totals and by the Game Type. The overall totals are basically all of the game types combined. The Game Type totals are seperate so you can see how well you are doing on each Game Type.

Added - The scrip will now track things that are SPECIFIC to each game type and list them seperately.

Changed - The Options Screen for Superstats will now display all of your stats broken down in to Game Types.

Dynamix's update servers for Tribes2 are still down. If it keeps telling you your version is out of date but it can't find a patch, here is a workaround to get you back online.

Create a new shortcut on your desktop to the tribes2.exe, and add the this to the end of the end of the line "-online"

If you installed Tribes2 in the default directory here's the command line:
    C:\Dynamix\Tribes2\GameData\Tribes2.exe -online

New Tribes 2 Patch Released 6/13/2001 1:14 PM
    Taken from TribalWar

Dynamix has released a Patch (Build 23115) which might help alot of you people out there who are experiencing some FPS problems. Here is a few of the changes:

    - (bug fix) Fixed a bug that could reset your Shape Detail setting to max

    - (bug fix) All known in-game Chat HUD bugs are fixed (partial lines from paging up/down and resize issues, etc.).

    - (bug fix) Infinite missile lock-on sound bug is fixed. Dead. Finito. No more. Pushing up the daisies

    - (bug fix) Deployable turrets (spider and spike) and Deployable inv stations now do damage in their explosion when they are destroyed.

    - (optimization) The following missions were refined in order to optimize framerate:
    Alcatraz
    Caldera
    Flashpoint
    Gauntlet
    IceBound
    Insalubria
    Overreach
    Respite
    Sirocco

    - (memory leak) Fixed a large memory leak. This plus the other leaks mentioned here should finally put the nail in the coffin on the "degrading server performance" issue.

    - (improvement) Targeting laser prediction should be better now.

    - (improvement) You can specify a server's IP address manually at the join screen

    - (improvement) You can now specify "-password " on the command line to join a server that requires a password.

    - (improvement) Heavy armors are tougher against snipers. You now require four headshots or five body shots to kill a Juggernaut with a laser rifle.

    - (improvement) Footspeed of all armors increased slightly, as well as a minor boost to jetpack performance. Some improvements made to air resistance for mediums and heavy armors (very subtle).

    - (improvement) The jetpack effect was reverted back to the old effect (by popular demand).

    - (improvement) A Chat HUD message has been added that is displayed whenever you try to deploy a mine, but your team's maximum number of mines has already been deployed. Previously, the mine would just blow up and not explain why it detonated. Now, it still blows up, but tells you why it happened.

    - (improvement) Polished up the health meter on the HUD so when you're still alive, it displays a visible sliver of positive health.

    - (improvement) After you buy a vehicle, you now fade into the driver's seat if your armor and pack make you an eligible pilot/driver.

    - (improvement) Increased speed of belly turret projectiles so that it is more effective in general (especially for air defense).

    - (improvement) Missile and AA turrets now have a longer maximum range (you'll still need to deploy sensors to get this added range, but they can fire farther if you do). They also react more quickly to available targets.
Alot more changes not mentioned, so its well worth while reading the upgrade.txt

New server hours 6/4/2001 9:15 AM
Due to bandwidth constraints new server hours will be put into effect.
As there currently is no scheduler this will be a manual process so it will be subect to my availability to start and stop the server. Hours are approximately 6:00 pm to 8:00 am all through the week.
Hopefully this will be temporary until we can find a workable solution, at which time we hope to return to 7 x 24. Also the maximum player limit is set to 20 players.

    Next Patch 6/1/2001 10:58 AM
    From TribalWar

Dave 'QIX' Georgeson caught a topic on the TribalWar forums asking what the deal with the next patch is. He was nice enough to post a reply.

We submitted a patch earlier this week. It should be available next week sometime. I'm not sure what day.

It is an optimization patch that speeds up framerate further, as well as fixing all known memory leaks and a bunch of bug issues.

    Holding your breath?

New Duel MOD for T2 5/30/2001 12:21 PM
    Taken from TribalWar

One of Tribe's most popular MODs is making its Tribes 2 debut. Here's the scoop from Sly One:
In the tradition of the original T1 Duel MOD created by Team Drinkers, n*.Sly One (fmr. drink|Beer) and n*.System-z (fmr. drink|Vodka) are proud to announce the Duel MOD for Tribes 2. The initial release of the MOD is available for download at http://www.neonsins.com/default.asp?action=duelmod. We have been running a BETA version of the MOD for several weeks on one of our servers, and it has proven to be quite stable. Although we are planning on many more enhancements and features, due to numerous requests we have decided to release the working version now and release the enhancements and new features as we go. We look forward to some faster servers running the MOD. The very next feature that we envision is a client-side Duel HUD that will enahance the Duel MOD experience (hint: think disk MA counter and MA sound notifications). Stay tuned at www.neonsins.com.

Need to brush up on your dueling? Hit a server running the DuelMOD. Note that there is no client side download needed in order to play Duel MOD, these files are for admins who wish to run DuelMOD on their servers.

World War II Online goes Gold 5/24/2001 1:18 AM
"World War II Online™ brings air, ground, and sea combat to a real-time, persistent, and historically set massively multiplayer game. Now you can command and crew a variety of accurately modeled vehicles, aircraft, and ships or you can explore the world and fight as a foot soldier in first person- combat with and against thousands of others players!

Blitzkrieg - WWIIOL's first retail release is set at the beginning of the Blitzkrieg, and all the major battle points are included: strongholds, fortresses, forests and rivers, just as it was in 1940. Can the RAF and British armies help the besieged French forces to re-write history? Could the Blitzkrieg have been stopped in France? With the dynamic flow of resources within WWII Online's strategic system, players will start the battles where they choose, and those choices will make a new history."

The graphics could be better but the gameplay of this game looks awesome. If you pre-order from Electronic Boutique you get 2 free months rather then only one.

    TRIBES 2 Admin Tool 5/23/2001 8:24 AM
Noticed over at Bluesnews, that version 1.01 of the BarrysWorld Admin Mod for TRIBES 2 is now available, which is the debut release of this program that looks to do for TRIBES 2 what their original admin mod did for Starsiege TRIBES. This would be to offer fixes for bugs and protection against cheating while avoiding any significant gameplay changes, since the goal is to "to keep the mod as efficient as possible so you won't notice any (degradation) in performance of your server."

White Player Triangles - Missing Health Bars 5/10/2001 8:22 AM
For all of you still posting about this error.

We at -=Fraggershall=- experienced this problem early in the evening after the patch was released. This problem was easily corrected though.

    Shutdown your server.

Go to your ../Tribes2 directory, and hit [F3] - In the file name box, type "*.DSO" without the quotes.

When the "Find Files or Folders" dialog finds theses files, delete them.

    Restart Your server.

So if your server is still having this problem, follow the above process.

If the server you are playing on is having this problem, have the admin follow the above process.

    New Patch - Update 5/10/2001 12:51 AM
Ok, we have the server at least semi-stablilzed, and all the features we had reinstated. Team damage is now off, but you can still take out friendly turrets, vehicles, generators, and inventories. Mines will no longer kill teammates either. What is NOT fixed yet, is the redjack issue, but that's a Dynamix problem, let them take the heat over that.

    Patch UPDATE! 5/3/2001 10:01 AM
There will be no patch tomorrow. Dynamix still has some "issues" with it and will be holding it off till next week. No confirmation if it will be a combined patch with the one that was supposed to be released next week, or if everything has just been pushed back. This news was posted in the "In Game" news. D&D Repost 5/2/2001 12:13 PM
And just as a reminder, if you run a Tribes 2 server and would like to run the D&D game type completed by Krael and Kennebel, you can download it here. This download has everything you need to run Defend and Destroy for Tribes 2, mod and maps by Krael and Kennebel.

Although it is probably considered a MOD, D&D is actually a completion of code for the game type "Defend and Destroy", which Dynamix included in the Tribes 2 release.

Please send Krael and Kennebel your comments and thank them for thier hard work getting our beloved D&D back into our lives!

New Tribes 2 Patch Thursday 5/1/2001 4:01 PM
This patch seems to be addressing much more than as of late. In particular they seem to be messing with some things we as players and server admins have already had to fix on our own, so I don't know how this will effect the D&D server or Autoadmin scripts.

    Ok, Mapmakers.

A new mapsite is up, Tribes2Maps. The purpose of this site is to share custome maps, you can download maps, or submit your own custom maps.

I think our D&D community needs to upload our maps, in hopes it might generate other D&D maps by other players.

For those of you that have been out of the loop on Halo, (as have I). There is an article on Halo.Bungie.Org, that leads me to beleive that they are definately supporting the PC for the release of Halo, the upcomping team 3D shooter.

They also had a great Nvidia promo movie that supports this... (Not new... dated September 2000).

Attention Defend and Destroy players 4/29/2001 10:12 AM
In order for your objective HUD to work properly when playing Defend and Destroy on our server, you need 1 script file on your client. You can get it here
Place the file in your tribes2/gamedata/base/scripts folder and you should then see the objectives for each team.

    Show Frames/Sec in Tribes 2 4/27/2001 4:41 PM
This is a cool little script that was posted by Labrat over on the TribalWar Forums. I simply took it and made a readme file and put it in a form that can easily be downloaded and "hopefully", easily installed.

This script simply allows you to access your Frames/Second in Tribes 2 in a graphical way...that looks pretty sweet. You can turn it on or off with the simple push of a button. I like it so much I usually just leave it on.

You can pick it up by clicking HERE!
